It's January 2015 and although it's cold and snowy out there, Im so excited to share some upcoming events this month!
2014 was quite an incredible year! So many events, thousands and thousands of people all over Maryland, DC, VA and beyond. I've met tons of new people, experienced more support and love than I can even express my gratitude for, and even with the occasional moments of frustration and/or "haters," I'm still blessed and thankful. Always. That will be my only attention given to the negative... it's a new year :)
One of my newest events is giving back to the community in a completely different way than we've seen in the Baltimore area LGBTQ scene in some time. Friends with Benefits is the brainchild of Vera Mosely and some friends created several years ago after the tragic death of a great friend, Sunny, to cancer at way too young of an age. Every last Friday of the month at The Hippo is Ladies Night (aka the Gallaghers reunion). It's been a really awesome experience seeing so many women from years and years of great times and memories. It's a beautiful thing coming together to help others. Our next event is Friday, January 30th at 9pm! I hope to see you there!
I'm also psyched to announce that I'll be Djing for our 6 year anniversary of BARE at Cobalt this Saturday night. It's unbelievable to me that we have already spent 6 years being one of the best women's events in the DMV. Without the chance introduction of Karen and I back in 2007, I would not have had the opportunity to dj for literally thousands and thousands of people in the DC area. Saturday night is going to be pretty epic: Dancers, Dance contest, DC Kings and Girlie show, and crazy drink specials. We will also be paying homage to the one and only Phase 1, which suddenly closed it's doors this past week. So disappointed that this has happened to such an important venue in DC... so much history and love has occurred there. Even more so, I'm sad for the dedicated staff who lost their jobs... I know that good things come to good people and the former staff will hopefully find wonderful new places of employment very soon. I'll definitely make a toast to them this Saturday night!
In non DJ related news... life has been incredibly busy with the family, and I think it's this time of year that most of us focus more attention on our loved ones around us. I've heard too many horrible stories of family and friends lost suddenly in the last few weeks, most recently a fellow City Knight from the class of '99...insane. I have sent many prayers up for people to have comfort at this time... I know that lately I've been thinking about my Dad more, hoping he will put in a special request for some snow. :D Make sure to tell someone close to you that you love them today!
If you're going through a tough time... I'm sorry and I have been there. My schedule is absolutely insane, but I've been known to answer an email from people who just need someone to listen. If you fit that criteria, feel free to message me.
I'm considering doing another Whole 30 as well. I think it's time to reboot after a tasty holiday season and a bout of the Flu. I think my body will thank me :) Interested in partaking? Let me know!
Happy Wednesday everyone!
I wish you a great start to this brand new year :)
